Junior News

Latest. Summer activities at Aldercar Lane added after National Fishing Month events below.

Welcome. On this page we are going to provide information that hopefully is of interest and use to our junior members. It will be updated when details of upcoming events etc. become known so please keep coming back every so often to have a look. Please also share this information with friends and other juniors who may not be DRAC members. We all know how great fishing is but we need to spread the message!

Aldercar Lane Fishery is home to a large number of junior matches. The postcode for satnavs is NG16 4HJ and the fishery website is http://www.aldercarlanefishery.co.uk. These are a great opportunity to get into match fishing but they are also a way of just improving your general angling techniques. You don't have to be an ace junior angler to take part.  Young anglers of all abilities participate, and help and tuition is always on hand. The next two matches are on the June 9th and 16th. A full list of these local junior matches is below and can also be found at the website http://juniorfishing.co.uk
This website provides a host of info about course fishing in our area and is well worth saving as a "favourite". Ian Wilkes, a Level 2 Angling Trust Coach runs the events and his contact details are on the website.

A number of events, aimed largely at junior anglers, are taking place in the Derby area during NationalFishing Month. On Thursday 16th August a session will be held from 3 pm until 7 pm at Mill Dam, an Earl of Harrington AC venue that is near the university and Markeaton Island. The event  is aimed at beginners. However we could do with some more experienced juniors to assist with the coaching, so please let me know if you can help. On the Saturday 18th August from 10 am until 4 pm a similar event will be held at Woodrow's Pond, another Earl of Harrington water that is off Haslam's Lane, just by Derby Rugby Club. Then on Sunday 19th August from 10 am until 4 pm, DRAC are running masterclasses in fly fishing, lure angling and carp fishing. There will also be a BBQ!
Further details of all these three National Fishing Month events are posted below.

After only approximately 50 metres turn right through a small white access gate down the tarmaced access track and cycle path to the Derby Railway Angling Club access gate. Pass through this gate, going past two lakes that are on each side of you and down towards the river. Follow the gravel travel alongside the river for approximately 600 metres. The Silt Pool will be on your left. Take care on the track – 10mph speed limit please.
